The pistol in the above image is a First Variation of the Star Model B which was delivered to the Germany Army Headquarters at Hendaye, France May 28, 1942 and by serial number, designated for the German Navy. Pistols destined for the German Navy generally did not have German Waffenampt markings.

It was produced by in Spain. Although its external appearance resembles the classic, its design is different in several respects. For example, the Star does not have the 1911's. In addition, the thumb safety on the Star disengages the, whereas it blocks the motion of the sear on a 1911. The pistol is fed by an 8-round detachable. An unloaded Star BMA total of 217,682 Star BM pistols were made between 1972 and 1992.

BM serial numbers ranged from 1,226,501 to somewhere around 1,982,884. The pistols were made without mechanical variation throughout that period, but there may be a lot of different cosmetic variations depending on agency issue and commercial sales. In general, earlier pieces were more highly polished and later ones were more of a matte finish. After serial number 1,560,901 in 1981, all BM pistols were fitted with a ramped and serrated front sight. At approximately this same serial number a few other shortcuts were used to expedite production – a shorter rollmark/slide legend, coarser polish limited to side of the slide and frame, and all the small parts were given a bead blast matte finish.
The slide cocking serrations are also reduced in number on these later pistols.There have been at least four importers of ex-Spanish BMs to the United States: Garcia Sporting Arms, PW Arms,. Most imports in the US are arms that were traded in by various Spanish military branches to Star for exchange for newer model 28/30M and 28/30PK pistols. For the Interarms imports, Star reworked all these trade-ins prior to selling them to Interarms. Spain's Guardia Civil used BM's up through about 1990 or so as did many other police agencies in Europe and Latin America.

Starline makes brass.In a pinch, you can use.38 Super cases, but I don't recommend using.38 Super ammo! The Star is stressed for the original.38 Colt Auto (the father of the Super) pressures. It is a competent pistol.The serial number is not 12676; that's a military or naval property number.
The serial number will be found on the bottom of the butt, where you find the bottom of the mainspring housing on a 1911. It will probably saySUPERAXXXXXX—a six digit number.The Super A was adopted by the Spanish military on 24 July 1946.

They go for about double that on the auction sites.My Brother and I bit the bullet and bought a commercial gun in near excellent condition, with box and paperwork. We probably paid a premium price but we got a nice one and it is chambered for the 9mm Largo.38 Auto, which is what I wanted.I reload so ammo isn't a problem for me. A friend has a pistol like yours that I made up some 9mm Largo for. But for my gun I made up some.38 Auto (downloaded.38 Supers) and the ammo worked just fine in the Star as well as my Colt Commander.Most of the older Star pistols were fired extensively with corrosive ammo. And a lot of the surplus ammo is corrosive. My friends Stars barrel is a bit worn but shoots OK. If your pistol has a decent bore, for a buck twenty five, you did good IMO.
